Blue Foot Membranes is a pioneering company specializing in advanced Membrane BioReactor (MBR) solutions for wastewater treatment. Founded in 2017 as a spin-off from the Flemish Institute for Technological Research (VITO), the company has developed a unique, virtually unbreakable membrane technology that combines the benefits of capillary and flat sheet membranes. This innovation enables efficient filtration and backwashing, transforming wastewater into reusable clean water. In 2024, Blue Foot Membranes secured a €10 million investment led by the Circular Innovation Fund (CIF), with participation from existing investors such as Qbic Fund, LRM NV, and VITO, to accelerate global expansion and promote sustainable water reuse solutions. Their technology is already in use by major clients, including the Danish brewery Carlsberg, aiming to reduce water consumption and environmental impact.
