In April 2024, Proximus reached an agreement to acquire additional 5G spectrum from NRB, enhancing its capacity to deliver top-tier mobile experiences in Belgium. This acquisition involves 20 MHz in the 3600 MHz frequency band, increasing Proximus's total to 120 MHz, thereby reducing potential network saturation risks. NRB, a leading Belgian IT service provider, decided to sell its 5G license to refocus on its core business, yet aims to continue offering 5G services through a potential wholesale partnership with Proximus. This strategic move aligns with Proximus's 2022 investment of €600 million over 20 years to secure extensive spectrum rights, facilitating an optimal 5G rollout. A recent BIPT study confirmed that Proximus already operates the fastest mobile network in the country. The agreement awaits final approval from the federal telecommunications regulator, BIPT.
